For the first time this season in IMSA, BMW and Dries Vanthoor did not secure pole position for this fifth round. After four qualifying sessions dominated by the Belgian driver, it was Nick Yelloly who proved to be the fastest on Friday evening in the narrow streets of Detroit at the wheel of the #06 Acura ARX-93 with a best lap of 1:05.762.
The Japanese manufacturer even achieved a one-two finish around General Motors headquarters with Tom Blomqvist's second place. Sheldon van der Linde completed the podium in the No. 25 BMW, ahead of Dries Vanthoor. Porsche will start from fifth and sixth places. The first Cadillac is only seventh for the Michigan manufacturer's home race.
Another Michigan marque showed its strength in the only other category of this round: GTD Pro. Ford locked down the front row with its Mustang GT3s, with Seb Priaulx taking pole position in 1:10.922, ahead of Christopher Mies. Neil Verhagen moved up to third in the No. 4 Paul Miller Racing BMW M3 GT1 EVO. Chevrolet's first Corvette finished fifth, courtesy of Tommy Milner.
Meet at 21:30 p.m. this Saturday for the race.
