The first free practice session for the 24 Hours of Daytona, the opening round of the USC and NAEC, saw the Ligier JS P2-Honda of the Negri-Pew-Allmendinger-McMurry quartet shine. The tricolor coupe completed a lap of the Florida track in 1'39"633, ahead of the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP entrusted to Barbosa-Bourdais-VS. Fittipaldi. The top three is completed by the Riley-Ford of Chip Ganassi Racing of Hand-Pruett-Kimball-Karam. With 40 kg less than during the Roar before the Rolex 24, the Ligier JS P2-Judd of Pla-Krohn-Jönsson-A. Brundle made a jump in the hierarchy, as she set the fourth best time of the session, 1”474 behind the reference time.

In GT LM, it was the No. 4 BMW Z25 GTE of Auberlen-Werner-Farfus-Spengler which shone thanks to a time of 1'44"990. The German beat Briscoe’s Corvette C7.R-Magnussen-Garcia and Ferrari 458 by Bruni-Collard-Perrodo-Vilander.

Les meilleurs chronos du LM PC et du GTD sont respectivement à mettre au crédit de l’Oreca 09 FLM n°52 du PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports (Guasch-Novich-Palmer-Kimber Smith) et de la Porsche 911 GT America n°44 (Petter-Lally-Seefried-Ragginger).
