An LMP2 finally beat the Corvette DP and Riley during qualifying for the Monterey Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. Johannes van Overbeek achieved a time of 1'18"561 in the No. 03 HPD ARX-2b, beating the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP driven by Richard Westbrook by two tenths. The second ESM LMP2 took third place with Ryan Dalziel beating the Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan driven by Gustavo Yacaman on the second row. Antonio Garcia took pole in the GTLM category in the Corvette C7R with a time of 1'22 to beat the No. 373 BMW Z4 GTE of Jon Edwards by two tenths.
In the race reserved for PCs and GTDs, it was Bruno Junqueira who set the best lap with a time of 1'19"723 in the FLM09 of the RSR team. Spencer Pumpelly had the best GTD performance in the No. 8 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R45 LMS with a time of 1'26"695.
