The return of Mercedes Le Mans isn't going as smoothly as it should. The star-spangled banner, which is fielding three Mercedes-AMG LMGT3s with Iron Lynx, experienced its first minor setback after a good hour of practice.
Then piloted by Stephen Whole grained, the No. 63 hit the wall in the Dunlop curve before coming to a stop on the track, its hood and front end badly dented. This is the first accident of the week for the 58-year-old Australian, who shares the wheel with his son Brenton Grove and Austrian Luca Stolz.
The other two Mercedes, the No. 60, composed of the Italian trio Claudio Schiavoni, Matteo Cressoni, Matteo Cairoli, and the No. 61, Martin Berry, Lin Hodenius and Maxime Martin, are still on track.
The Iron Lynx team gave an update on their driver a few minutes later: Stephen Grove was examined at the medical center before being released.
