They promised it, here is their promise kept! Aston Martin had announced, at the beginning of February, that its Valkyrie with a naturally aspirated V12 engine would be equipped with new silencers less restrictive and which had the logical consequence of increasing the ferocious noise of the British mount. It was during the tests organized by theIMSA, on the Sebring track, that we were able to have a first (auditory) glimpse of this modification… and indeed, the sound produced by Valkyrie is even more impressive than before! Judge for yourself with the video below.
"Initially we opted for a silent safety position, Adam Carter, the program manager, explained to us at the time: Endurance at Aston Martin, regarding the modifications made to the Valkyrie to make it louder. The worst case scenario would be to be stopped during testing due to noise limits being exceeded. That’s why, during the car’s development period focused entirely on performance aids, we reduced the size of the silencer. This reduces weight, inertia load on the exhaust, underbody blocking and helps with cooling. We’ve gradually released more of that beautiful soundtrack. I’m really looking forward to hearing it on track in Qatar.”
Impressive in terms of noise, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is for the moment much less so in terms of pace. Wednesday, despite its 82 laps completed on the Sebring International Raceway, the British car achieved its best time in 1'51"316 in the hands of Alex Riberas... or 2"851 more than the Porsche 963 No. 6, leading the ranking of these tests. For the moment, the Valkyrie is even slower than the best LM P2s. But let's wait for the first races to really judge its true potential.
