Toyota Motorsports a choisi d’engager un pilote junior pour lui offrir la chance de développer son expérience sur un proto LMP1. L’Italien Andrea Caldarelli, qui a débuté sa saison 2011 en GP3 Series, avant de rejoindre la Formula Nippon, pourra piloter la TS030 même s’il ne devrait pas rouler en course. Il s’était auparavant illustré en Formula Renault 2.0 (within the French SG Formula team) and was part of Toyota's young driver program from 2007 to 2009, when the Japanese manufacturer was still evolving in F1. After a season in F3 Euro Series, he finished in 3rd place in the Italian F3 championship in 2010.
