The red flag came out after an accident between the n°18 Audi R1 TDI of Romain Dumas and the?Aston Martin No. 60 Gulf by Roald Goethe. The German spun at Mulsanne when the R18 TDI arrived just behind. Romain Dumas was unable to avoid the Aston Martin and both cars stopped on the track.
The R18 TDI involved in the accident occupied second position between the two other LMP1s from the German manufacturer.
