The second qualifying session of the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was interrupted after only 17 minutes due to Erik Maris going off the track after the first Mulsanne chicane at the wheel of the Eurasia Motorsport Ligier JS P217 in which Jacques and Pierre Nicolet are also racing.

Race management indicated that the driver had left under his own power and would be taken to the medical center as a precaution. The red flag was displayed to allow marshals to repair the rails which were damaged in the accident. Officials clarified that the session will not resume before 20:15 p.m.
