In his garage Haas, Kevin Magnussen must have only moderately appreciated the scene. While he had confided his car to Pietro Fittipaldi for Free Practice 1 as part of the running reserved for rookies, the Dane had the painful sensation of seeing the engine installed in his car go up in smoke on the start-finish straight. On board, Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi was ordered to stop the car for safety reasons.
A few minutes before the start of FP2, Haas informed that Kevin Magnussen would change engines, and would receive a five-position grid penalty on Sunday during the Grand Prix (21 p.m.) for fitting a sixth internal combustion engine.
