Abu Dhabi – Russell’s anger over the end of the race

George Russell is probably having trouble digesting the final laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. On the floor after a premature retirement on the 29th lap due to a gearbox problem, the Englishman followed the end of the race on television. And at first glance, he did not appreciate the outcome of this 2021 season.

« This is unacceptable, he wrote on his Twitter account, seeing that the decisions taken by the FIA allowed Max Verstappen to get rid of Lewis Hamilton in the last lap to claim the world title. Max is a fantastic driver who has had an incredible season and I have nothing but respect for him but what has just happened is absolutely unacceptable. I can't believe what we just saw. »

As a reminder, the Safety Car was deployed after the car left the track. Nicholas latifi five rounds from the end. After four laps behind the safety car, the Grand Prix was restarted for one final lap. A final lap which saw Lewis Hamilton give in to Max Verstappen to the great dismay of George Russell, the Englishman's future teammate at Mercedes.
