As usual, qualifying was marked by many drivers idling as they approached the final turns. In Abu Dhabi, one of the victims of this gathering was Sebastian Vettel. So in a lap launched in Q1, the driver Aston Martin was embarrassed by Esteban Ocon who was about to launch his own.
Summoned by the race management at the end of the qualifying session, Esteban Ocon finally escaped without penalty but with a reprimand. Alpine for his part was fined 10000 euros. He will start 9th, Sebastian Vettel 15th.
