The torrential rain that hit the Miami circuit was nothing compared to the penalty rain that has been falling on the drivers since the end of the sprint race. Max Verstappen (10s) and Oliver Bearman (5s), two other drivers who initially finished in the points, received a penalty.
Alexander albon was stripped of his superb 4th place for not driving fast enough under the safety car. The Thai driver dropped out of the top 10 with those five seconds added to his time, as did Liam Lawson. The Kiwi was delighted to have finally scored his first points in Formula 1, but he will ultimately have to wait at least another 24 hours to open his meter.
The Racing Bulls driver was eventually penalized five seconds for hitting Fernando Alonso at the end of the sprint. The Spaniard crashed into the wall and caused the safety car to come out. Lawson, initially 7th, lost his place and allowed Kimi Antonelli and Pierre Gasly to score points.
