Ayumu Iwasa to replace Max Verstappen in Bahrain FP1

Ayumu Iwasa will take part in his third Free Practice session in Formula 1 on the occasion of the Bahrain Grand Prix. However, this will be his first time behind the wheel of a car of the parent team since during his two previous sessions, the Japanese driver was driving a Visa Cash App, in Japan and Abu Dhabi last year. This time he will drive the RB21 of the four-time world champion Max Verstappen. He is already the sixth rookie announced to take part in FP1 at the Sakhir circuit.

« I'm really looking forward to it," the 23-year-old driver rejoiced on social media. Koji Watanabe, president of Honda Racing Corporation, shares the Japanese driver's enthusiasm: " Ayumu Iwasa will take full advantage of this precious opportunity to drive the car that won the last Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, transforming these 60 minutes into a springboard for the future.
A member of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2021, Ayumu Iwasa is currently in his second season of Super Formula.
