Rubens Barrichello (Williams), victim of a spectacular accident (see video) during the Monaco Grand Prix, made a mistake due to the inconvenience caused by a poorly fixed manhole cover. In the minutes following the Brazilian?s accident, the FIA sent the safety car onto the track, suspecting the loss of a manhole cover before the Massenet corner. But no image or statement had come to confirm this thesis. But Williams can now confirm it: it was the poor fixing of a manhole cover in turn 2 which damaged the left rear wheel of the Brazilian's car, who immediately made a mistake. The Grove team can thus reassure itself about its level of reliability but can also consider itself the victim of incredible bad luck.
