Valtteri Bottas was penalized at the end of the Belgian GP following his collision with Sergey Sirotkin at the start. The pilot Mercedes benefited from the interruption of the race following the pile-up involving Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Fernando Alonso (McLaren) and Charles Leclerc (Sauber) to go to the pits to repair his W09 before arriving in 4th place ahead of the Force Indias of Sergio Pérez and Esteban Ocon.

The stewards therefore imposed a time penalty of 5 seconds on the Finn, but his lead over the Mexican allows him to maintain his position. The Mercedes driver also received two points on his license.
