Gearbox change for Sainz and Pérez in Monaco

Ferrari plays it safe before the Monaco Grand Prix. There Team will change the gearbox Carlos Sainz, victim of a collision with Pérez at the end of Q3 on Saturday. The Spaniard, surprised by the pilot's spin Red Bull, could not avoid it. There F1Sainz's -75 was then damaged, and Ferrari did not want to take any risks before the race.

“After examining Carlos' car following his accident and taking into account the force of the impact, we decided to change the gearbox as a precaution. Parts of the rear of the car that had been damaged were also replaced. These changes do not result in a penalty » announced the Scuderia on Sunday before the race.

The Italian team does not want to repeat the fatal mistake of last season. At the time, Charles Leclerc, also the victim of an accident at the end of Q3, was unable to start the race. The gearbox was still faulty despite the repairs the day before. This year, the Scuderia is playing it safe. With his new gearbox, Carlos Sainz will start in second position in the Monaco Grand Prix, behind his teammate.

On the Red Bull side, same story. Pérez's RB18 was badly damaged yesterday and the Austrian team preferred to change the gearbox before the Grand Prix. Like Sainz, Pérez does not risk a penalty for this change.
