According to the BBC, the cost of hiring a team in Formula 1 jumped in one year. This increase is notably due to the introduction of the new regulations, with wider tires and innovative aerodynamic elements for the 2017 season. The bill to adapt to the regulations amounts to 188,3 million euros on the year 2016 (the creation of a car starting a year in advance), an increase of 14,5% on the teams' total budget.

In total, the teams raised 1,46 billion euros, making it the highest balance sheet in the history of the discipline. Mercedes is the most expensive training, with no less than 309 million euros spent in 2016, excluding investment on the engine part.
