That's not really what McLaren needed after a disastrous first round in Bahrain, but we will have to make do. For embarrassing his former teammate Esteban Ocon in Q2 this Saturday, while the latter was on a flying lap, Daniel Ricciardo received a three-place grid penalty for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which will be held this Sunday at 20 p.m. local time.
The Australian, qualified in 12th position just behind his teammate Lando Norris, will therefore start the Grand Prix from 14th place, just in front Lewis Hamilton. The commissioners considered that the Australian had hampered the Frenchman, while specifying that McLaren had failed in its duty by not warning of the imminent arrival of theAlpine A522 from Ocon.
This is the reason why in addition to the grid penalty imposed on Daniel Ricciardo, the Woking team was fined 10 euros. The Australian also had a point removed from his license. As a reminder, we also learned a little earlier in the evening that Mick Schumacher would not start the Grand Prix on Sunday after the violent crash he suffered in Q2 on Saturday. It will not be replaced, which means that Haas will enter only one car in the race, that of Kevin Magnussen.
