What if rain were to spice up an already very spicy Australian Grand Prix? The opening round of the 2025 season of Formula 1 could well take place in rainy conditions. Indeed, according to the latest weather forecast (as of Tuesday, March 11, 17:00 p.m.), the risk of rain in the city of Melbourne on Sunday is 90%!
According to the Australian government weather website, there could be between 2 and 15 mm of rain on the day of the Grand Prix, with temperatures around 25°C. Showers that could well disrupt the first race of the season. The day before, the situation will be completely different: in fact, qualifying could take place in extreme heat, since the maximum temperature announced for Saturday is 37°C in the air and only a 10% chance of rain!
Rain for the opening round of a Formula 1 season is a rare event that has never happened in the 1993st century. You have to go back to 2010 to find the record of a Grand Prix opening disrupted by rain: it was at Kyalami, during the (last) South African Grand Prix. The last time the Australian Grand Prix took place in wet conditions was in XNUMX… but at that time, it was Bahrain that hosted the opening round.
