This is not a new thing: for a few years now, Pirelli has been trying to innovate on… its caps presented to the three drivers present on the podium at the finish of a Grand Prix. As is customary in Formula 1 For decades, the top three have worn a cap representing their tire manufacturer when they step onto the podium. Since 2011, it is Pirelli – exclusive supplier to F1 – that has been displaying its brand on said caps, and after 15 seasons in the discipline, the Italian firm is trying to be original season after season.
In recent years, at some Grands Prix, caps have been replaced by headgear typical of local culture, such as a sombrero in Mexico, a cowboy hat in Austin or a chapka in Russia. In 2025, Pirelli is taking a different path: this season, at the 24 Grands Prix on the calendar, we can see 14 caps with an original and unique design, each with a style representing the culture of the country in question. It is the designer Denis Dekovic, sportswear creator and former strongman of Nike, who imagined these 14 special caps.

“We were asked to create 14 different cap designs, so we had to immerse ourselves in 14 different cultures, explains Denis Dekovic. Finding the right inspirations was very instinctive. First, we had to identify what those elements were. Then we tried to add more local influences, like the color, the graphics, the choice of the font used. When you see the drivers wearing them on the podium, it will be fantastic, but for me, it will be even more incredible to see 'normal' people wearing these caps, which are meant for everyone.
The first special cap will be presented at the opening round in Australia (March 16), with green and yellow caps, the colours of the Australian national teams. In China (March 23), these caps will be red and in Japan (April 6), they will be navy blue. Each of them will have patterns and symbols of the local culture. As a reminder, in 2025, the Pirelli firm will reach the milestone of 500 Formula 1 Grands Prix during the coming season, a milestone it will reach at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31.
