Two weeks after his mistake during the Melbourne Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) made a mistake again, this time in qualifying. The Spaniard has in fact lost the back of his F1-75 in the last corner at the start of Q2. His second time set a little earlier still allowed him to qualify for Q3, although he will not be able to take part.
In his fall, Carlos Sainz dragged both Mercedes by George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, Guanyu-Zhou (Alfa Romeo) and Mick Schumacher (Haas) and Lance stroll (Aston Martin). After the red flag, the rain actually broke in, condemning the five drivers mentioned above.
So, despite the lights turning green, the five did not have the opportunity to improve. Alone Sebastian Vettel et Charles Leclerc returned to the track in Intermediates, to measure the level of grip on the track in order to prepare for Q3.
