The Spanish driver announced the bad news via a post on his social media. Fabrizio Borra, a long-time physiotherapist at Fernando Alonso, died Sunday morning at the age of 64 from cancer.

“I will miss you, Fabri. Every day. Thank you for teaching me so much and making me a better person and a better athlete. My entire career with you has been the greatest opportunity I could have. Rest in peace, my brother.”, wrote the double world champion of Formula 1 on his Instagram account.

Alongside Alonso since his F1 debut

The Italian physio had been working alongside him since his debut with the Minardi team in 2001. Thus, he was present at Renault when the Spaniard won his two world titles. He then accompanied Fernando Alonso for the rest of his career at McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine et Aston Martin.

Fabrizio Borra was well known in the paddock as he also took care of Michael Schumacher in the late 1990s. But the latter did not only work with F1 drivers. Indeed, he also accompanied the driver of MotoGP Italian Andrea Dovizioso and several cyclists including Marco Pantani and Tadej Pogacar, three-time winner of the Tour de France.
