Pirelli continues, throughout the Grand Prix of F1 in this 2025 season, to evolve its tire selections. Thus, this weekend, for the seventh round of the championship, the first European one, at Imola, the manufacturer arrives with a brand new rubber.

This new compound, called C6, is the softest in the range. It will therefore be used by the drivers on the grid for the first time for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, from May 16 to 18. In fact, even during pre-season testing in Bahrain, these tires had not been tested.

Softer tires at Imola to hope for more spectacle

The C6 will logically be the soft tire, alongside the C5 (medium) and the C4 (hard). These choices are a notch softer than those made for the Imola round in 2024. "Approved for the least demanding circuits for tires, the C6 could offer even more grip on a flying lap. Especially since the Imola surface is less abrasive than average.", Pirelli indicates in its press release.

The use of softer compounds aims to create more drama and uncertainty. Especially in Grand Prix races where one-stop strategies were common last year. It remains to be seen how the teams and drivers will approach this new feature. And whether it will really make a difference on the track. While knowing that the manufacturer believes it is "It's hard to imagine it being used in racing.".
