The United Kingdom is particularly affected by the current increase in the cost of energy, a result, among other things, of the increase in demand after the Covid-19 crisis and the sanctions imposed on Russia for invading Ukraine.
Like all businesses based in Great Britain, Mercedes is not spared from galloping inflation in a country where protection mechanisms do not really exist. Toto wolff revealed that Mercedes' energy bill had tripled in 2022, from 2 million pounds sterling (2,3 million euros) to 6 million (6,9 million euros).
The team therefore decided to invest in a solar park near its factories. The project is only in its preparatory phase but Mercedes hopes to have this tool available by 2024 if all authorizations are obtained from the local authorities.
Wolff hopes the investment “ will be amortized within 20 years, or even much sooner given the increase in energy prices ».
The boss of Brackley and Brixworth (UK) also announced that measures would be taken for the company's lowest salaries to compensate for the loss of income linked to inflation.
