Pierre Gasly will start from the pits for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Alpha Tauri “takes advantage” of the Frenchman’s elimination in Q1 to install new components on the AT03 before the race. Using a 4th internal combustion engine (ICE), 4th turbo (TC), 4th MGU-H, 4th MGU-K, 3rd battery (ES) and 3rd electronic control unit (CE), the Normand exceeds the authorized quotas. If normally the penalty imposed is a start from the back of the grid, Gasly will have to start from the pit lane this time. The reason ? The changes were not made with the approval of the FIA technical delegate.
On the side of home Red Bull, we don't take any risks. The Austrian team also changed the power units of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez before the Hungarian Grand Prix. During qualifying on Saturday, the reigning world champion complained of a lack of power in Q3. He couldn't have done better than 10th place.
Both Red Bull drivers will use a 3rd internal combustion engine (ICE), a 3rd turbocharger (TC), a 3rd MGU-H and a 3rd MGU-K, as well as a 6th exhaust system. Verstappen and Pérez remain within the quotas authorized over a season and will therefore not take a penalty at the Hungaroring.
