The McLaren will not have shone during the first qualifying session of the Belgian GP. Fernando Alonso failed in 17th place while his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne finished last behind the Williams by Sergey Sirotkin and Lance stroll.
Carlos Sainz Jr. (Renault) is the first eliminated from Q1. The Spaniard failed by 2 tenths of Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso). Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) set the best time with a lap completed in 1'42''585 with the soft tires. The Finn beat his compatriot Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), but the latter will have to move back to the back of the grid following his penalty.
