Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) failed at the gates of Q3 at the Belgian GP, finishing half a second behind Kevin Magnussen (Haas). The Frenchman beat his teammate Brendon Hartley and could have qualified for the last session if Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) had not qualified. The Toro Rossos are ahead of the Saubers Charles Leclerc and Marcus Ericsson, while Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) did not set a time due to his penalty.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) set the new lap record with a time of 1'41''501, a few hundredths ahead of his teammate Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). However, Q3 should be contested on a wet track with a downpour arriving on the track.
