As with every Grand Prix, the stewards publish a document in advance detailing circuit-specific instructions. At Suzuka, race director Rui Marques expressly forbade drivers from overtaking on the inside of the pit lane. Everyone was expected to quickly position themselves on the outside, along the pit walls.
More Hamilton et Stroll ignored this directive by overtaking several competitors on the left, on the garage side. This maneuver was deemed illegal and earned the two men an official warning, also addressed to their respective teams: Ferrari for Hamilton, Aston Martin for Stroll.

At Ferrari, the results are more encouraging: Hamilton set the fourth fastest time, 0 seconds behindOscar piastri, just behind Isack Hadjar, surprising at the wheel of the Racing Bulls. Charles Leclerc took 7th place, just 42 thousandths behind his teammate.
