The sale of original racing parts is a phenomenon that has been gaining momentum in recent years, particularly following the creation of the F1 Authentics service. Honda is joining the fray by putting up for sale several parts from original engines used in Formula 1, a MotoGP or IndyCarThe Japanese engine manufacturer has announced its first collection, based on parts from the RA100E engine. This power unit was used in the McLaren of Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger during the 1990 Formula 1 season. It was in that same year that Senna won his second world title, following a bitter duel against Alain Prost, which ended with the famous clash between the two men at the start of the Japanese Grand Prix.
Honda announced that the original engine was disassembled following a rigorous process conducted by the same engineers and mechanics who worked on the original version. At the upcoming Monterey Car Week in California this summer, fans will be able to acquire several of the engine's parts. These include camshafts, cam covers, pistons, and connecting rods. These parts are sold in display-ready cases and come with a certificate of authenticity.
"Our goal is to make it a valuable business that allows fans of F1, MotoGP and other races to share the story of Honda's racing challenges since the 1950s.", said Koji Watanabe, president of the HRC. “Allowing our fans to own a piece of Honda’s racing history is not a one-time endeavor, but rather an ongoing activity that we will nurture and grow.”
In addition to Formula 1, motorcycling and IndyCar will also be featured through various sales throughout the year.
