It was via the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan regional government, that the information arrived. The local representative body confirmed during the day that an agreement had been reached to extend the hosting of the Grand Prix of F1 of Spain on the Montmelo circuit near Barcelona.

“The government authorizes the one-year extension of the contract to organize the F1 Grand Prix in Catalonia is indicated on the Twitter account of the Generalitat. The following signing will guarantee the celebration of the 30th consecutive edition of this event at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Montmeló.”

We now have to wait for more official confirmation from F1 or the Catalan circuit. With the return of Zandvoort in the loop for 2020, the calendar could thus exceed the current 20 races.
