The first part of qualifying for the French Grand Prix on the Paul-Ricard circuit (Var) was free of surprises. Both Williams by Sergey Sirotkin (19th) and Lance stroll (20th) bring up the rear and are logically eliminated, just like the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2018 Fernando Alonso (McLaren, 16th).
Brendon Hartley (Toro Rosso), who will start at the back of the line anyway due to various changes to the Honda engine, achieved the 17th fastest time. Fine drops of rain appeared in turns 5 and 6 during the final minutes.
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) signed the best performance in 1'31″271.
