After being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom in 2021, Lewis Hamilton was made an honorary citizen of Brazil on Thursday. The Brazilian House of Representatives awarded this title to the seven-time world champion, very attached to the country of Ayrton Senna, his idol since childhood.

The Mercedes driver has never hidden his love for this nation: the colors green, blue and yellow were present on his helmet for several years. Victorious three times in the Brazilian Grand Prix, at Interlagos (2016, 2018, 2021), Hamilton waved the Brazilian flag on the podium during his success last season. He even won his first championship there in 2008, after a crazy scenario.
On Instagram, Lewis Hamilton reacted with a lot of emotion. " I am speechless. Today I received honorary citizenship of one of my favorite places in the world. I don't really have the words at the moment. Thank you Brazil, I love you, I can't wait to see you again. »
