The first qualification of the 2017 season allowed Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) to take pole position for the Australian Grand Prix. The Briton achieved the best time in 1'22″188 and is ahead of the Ferrari SF70H Sebastian Vettel, beaten by 268 thousandths.

The German took advantage of his last attempt to insert himself between the two W08s since Valtteri Bottas will start third alongside Kimi Räikkönen. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Romain Grosjan (Haas) share the third row ahead of Felipe Massa (Williams) and both Toro Rosso de Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat. Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), who made a mistake earlier in Q3, completes the top 10. More information to follow.
