If the idea of a remarriage Williams et Renault is now to be excluded for the 2011 season, it is another former partner of the French engine manufacturer who is getting closer to Viry-Chatillon.

According to the BBC, Tony Fernandes – initiator of the return of the Lotus name in F1 – and Mike Gascoyne – technical director of the team – met with Renault executives to lay the first foundations for a collaboration.

If Fernandes chooses Renault, he will have to find an arrangement with Cosworth because he has a contract for the next two seasons with his current engine manufacturer.
