This is a date that fans of Mercedes will be quick to mark their calendars: the Brackley-based team has announced that it will unveil its next car on February 24th. The purely aesthetic aspect of the car will already be known by then, since Mercedes will participate, with the nine other teams on the grid, in the F1 75 Live evening, scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th at the 02 Arena in London. In the immense arena of the British capital, the Formula 1 is planning an exceptional show to launch the 75th season in the history of the premier category.

Many teams, however, prefer to choose their own time slot to unveil their cars in a more intimate setting. Five days after the London frenzy, Mercedes will unveil its new single-seater on Monday 24 February. The Brackley-produced Formula 1 car will be in the hands of George Russell and rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli this season. The Italian, aged just 18, will be the youngest driver on the grid and will have the difficult task of replacing Lewis Hamilton.

The team led by Toto wolff is for the moment the one which will present its single-seater last after the announcements of Williams (February 14), Haas (February 16) and Ferrari (February 19). Unsurprisingly, the Mercedes will be called the W16, in line with all the single-seaters launched by the brand with the star since its return to F1 in 2010. The W is the first letter of “Wagen” – car in German – and the 16 indicates that this will be Mercedes’ 16th season in Formula 1 since its return.

For the Germans, 2025 already seems to be shaping up to be a year of transition after a rather disappointing year. Despite the four victories acquired by Lewis Hamilton (Belgium and Great Britain) and George Russell (Austria and Las Vegas), Mercedes had to settle for fourth place in the constructors' standings, its worst result since 2012 (5th). Minds and resources already seem to be focused on 2026, the year of a major regulatory change that promises to shake up the hierarchy.
