Michael Schumacher, long sixth in the Malaysian Grand Prix, had to retire. On the tenth lap, the driver Mercedes encountered a mechanical problem and had to abandon his car at the side of the track.

While Pedro de la Rosa did not start the race, his teammate Kamui Kobayashi could not complete 10 laps of the race. The Japanese, eleventh behind Vitaly Petrov, had to retire. Another withdrawal, that of Timo Glock, after contact with Jarno Trulli.
