From July 10th to 13th, Nigel Mansell will take the wheel of two of his Williams iconic. The FW14B, with which he won his world title in Hungary in 1992, and the FW11, which he drove in 1986. This car could have been his first world championship title, if it hadn't been for a puncture during the last Grand Prix of the season, in Adelaide, Australia. Alain Prost, pilot McLaren at the time, took advantage of this mishap to win a second consecutive world title.
This is the fourth time in his career that Mansell will participate in the Festival of Speed. This year, Goodwood will celebrate the Formula 1 even more so than usual. To mark the 75th anniversary of the World Championship, which began in May 1950 at Silverstone, the event organized by the Duke of Richmond will see numerous world champions drive some of the most iconic single-seaters in the history of the sport.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the Festival of Speed this summer and celebrating 75 years of the Formula 1 World Championship.”, explained Nigel Mansell. “I’ve been lucky enough to drive the Goodwood Hill Climb in several of my cars over the years, and I can’t wait to do it again!”
The FW14B was driven by Mansell at Goodwood in 2022, but the following year it was another number 5 in F1 history who drove this car. Sebastian Vettel actually took the wheel of one of his idols' cars, running on biofuel, as part of his "Race Without Trace" campaign.
