5-second penalty for Perez, who keeps his victory in Singapore

Winner in Singapore of his second victory of the season thanks to a lead of 7”5 seconds over his main pursuer Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez was in uncertainty regarding the definitive validation of his victory. The Mexican was in fact under investigation for having, on two occasions, failed to fulfill his obligations to leave less than ten lengths between him and the safety car, while he was leading the Grand Prix and the Safety Car was out.

It happened the first time at 21:30 p.m. local time, while the safety car was on track for the first time, then a second time at 22:33 p.m., an hour later. The race direction, after listening to the arguments of Red Bull and driver No. 11, made the decision to reprimand Checo Perez for the first incident.

The second offense being similar to the first leading to a reprimand, the race direction decided to impose a five-second penalty as well as 2 superlicense penalty points for the repeat offense. A sanction which still allows him to maintain his victory with a 2”5 lead over Monegasque Charles Leclerc, with whom he got closer in the championship by coming back to just two small points from 2nd place.
