It is Kazuki Nakajima who set the fastest lap in the first phase of the qualifying session, in 1:18:530. The session was shortened since Adrian Sutil (Force India) was the victim of a violent exit from the track thirty seconds from the end of Q1. The five eliminated are Fisichella, Bourdais,Sutil, Hamilton et Buemi. The remaining 24 seconds of the session do not give them time to improve their time.
