Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) set the best time in the second phase of qualifying, at Sepang, in 1:46:828, still on a wet circuit. Vitaly Petrov (Renault), 11th, is the first eliminated. He is ahead of Pedro de la Rosa (Sauber, 12th), Sébastien Buemi (Toro Rosso, 13th), Jaime Alguersuari (Toro Rosso, 14th), Heikki Kovalainen (Lotus, 15th) and Timo Glock (Virgin, 16th). Jenson Button (McLaren) is classified 17th, having not driven in Q2 following an exit from the track in Q1.
