Since the start of the weekend in Miami, the drivers have been treated to changeable weather, ranging from high temperatures, humidity, and heavy downpours, as was the case at the start of the sprint race on Saturday afternoon. This Sunday, for the Grand Prix, the weather is expected to be just as unstable. Indeed, according to the latest forecasts, rain and thunderstorms could disrupt the start and the first laps of the race. On a fast track, with winding sections and poor water drainage, we could therefore see some twists and turns.
Moreover, in view of this possible bad weather, the FIA has decided to implement a procedure (document no. 69) in the event of thunderstorms during the GP. This is to ensure the safety of the drivers and the smooth running of the race. This procedure is partly linked to an American regulation, which requires races to be stopped when lightning is detected within a 13 km radius of the circuit. The race can only resume after 30 minutes without lightning have elapsed.
In addition, earlier in the day, rain got the better of the second race of the F1 Academy. In fact, it did not take place due to the heavy downpours that were falling on the circuit.
