After the Australian Grand Prix, which was held in changeable conditions, will we experience another wet Grand Prix this weekend at Suzuka? On the eve of the Japanese Grand Prix, the weather is more uncertain than ever. While Free Practice and Qualifying took place under bright sunshine – the dried grass at the edge of the track even caught fire several times due to sparks caused by the cars passing by – gray skies await the drivers on Sunday.
Indeed, according to the latest weather forecast (as of 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 15), rain is expected this Sunday morning at Suzuka, with approximately 3 millimeters of rain from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. The rain is expected to stop before the Grand Prix, which will start at 14 p.m. local time (7 a.m. French time), with temperatures around 15°C.
At the beginning of the weekend, F1 announced a risk of rain of around 80%, a percentage that has since been revised slightly downwards, to around 40%. A risk that nevertheless remains significant and after qualifying on Saturday, many drivers mentioned the rain factor as one of the variables to be taken into account for the Japanese GP.
