According to the English daily The Times, the stables McLaren-Mercedes et Renault reportedly threatened Bernie Ecclestone with a boycott of the Australian Grand Prix, less than a week before its start.

The scene would have taken place during the last meeting of FOTA, the association of team managers, during which the payment to the teams of sums retained by Ecclestone was under debate. The big financier of the F1 wanted the teams to first sign the new Concorde agreement before paying the money in question.
