Three pilots (Sébastien Buemi, Tonio Liuzzi, Kamui Kobayashi) having been involved in an accident on the first lap, the safety car came out. Several drivers, including the leaders, took the opportunity to switch to intermediate tires due to the onset of rain. Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Robert Kubica are in the lead on slick tires, the circuit not being very wet.
