Carlos Sainz Jr. (Renault) was the first eliminated from Q1 of the British GP at Silverstone. The Spaniard failed by half a tenth of Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso), last qualified for the second qualifying session, which saw the suspension changed after practice following the accident of his teammate Brendon Hartley who was unable to participate in the qualifications. The Hispanic driver beat Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) and Sergey Sirotkin (Williams).

Lance stroll (Williams) did not have time to set a time. The Canadian made a mistake by losing the rear of his FW41 at the start of Q1 on his first flying lap. His teammate Sergey Sirotkin also went off the track, but the Russian was only able to set the last time.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) set the new lap record at Silverstone with a time of 1'26''585. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) followed more than two tenths ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas et Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
