The college of commissioners had little taste for the attitude of Lance stroll (Williams) and Kevin Magnussen (Haas) during qualifying for the United States Grand Prix in Austin (Texas). The Canadian, eliminated in Q1, received three penalty places with one point less on his license F1. Lance Stroll had embarrassed Romain Grosjean (Haas) in his throwing round. “Stroll was changing the settings of his car on orders from his engineer on the radio. He was made aware of Grosjean’s arrival very late”, explains the FIA. “Stroll did what he could to avoid the collision. Regardless, the situation was very dangerous, given the 100 km/h difference between the two cars. »

Same sanction for Kevin Magnussen. The Dane provoked a gesture of humor from Sergio Pérez (Force India) also in Q1. “Pérez was doing his timed lap, but I was told he was doing an installation lap, so I didn’t let him pass”, explains Kevin Magnussen. “It was a mistake, and I apologize. I clearly blocked him”, he admits.

Friday, several penalties were awarded à Max Verstappen (+15 places), Nico Hulkenberg (+ 20), Brendon Hartley (+25) and Stoffel Vandoorne (+5), for engine changes.
