Dominant in F1 since 2014 and the introduction of V6 turbo/hybrid Power Units, Mercedes carefully scrutinizes the next regulations for 2021. The German clan, via its boss Toto wolff, does not necessarily view the removal of the MGU-H favorably, as indicated in the first ideas put forward by the FIA.
Mercedes has notably built its success on mastering hybrid energy management. « I think we're halfway there with the engine proposals, Wolff comments. on ESPN. We don't like the disappearance of the MGU-H, a high-tech piece of equipment.
We would rather provide it to some of the teams who lack the technology or certain manufacturers who do not have this technology. The devil is in the details but the discussions are moving in the right direction. »
