Having fallen in love with Australia for several years, Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) has decided to celebrate Aboriginal culture during the 2023 Australian Grand Prix (April 2). The Finnish pilot will wear a helmet designed by an Aboriginal artist, Ricky Kildea.
A replica of this helmet will be auctioned between March 28 and April 11 on the F1 Authentics website. The money raised will be donated to two Australian associations. The Mooroopna Kinder Project supports families affected by the 2022 floods and the Koorie Academy Basketball, a not-for-profit organization aiming to integrate Aboriginal children into sporting activities.
“I like to express myself through my special headphones, said Valtteri Bottas. Australian culture and history are subjects that have interested me a lot in recent years, notably thanks to my partner, Tiffany (Cromwell, professional cyclist. Editor’s note) who is originally from the region, and we wanted to pay special tribute to the indigenous community.
This is how the collaboration with Ricky was born. He is a very talented artist and I enjoyed the process of creating the helmets. I think these are two of the most beautiful designs I've ever worn on the runway, and I'm thrilled to be auctioning off one of them for a good cause. »
