This is undoubtedly the funniest scene of this first day in Melbourne. Forced to stop his AMR22 at the exit of turn 10 during the first free practice session due to an engine problem, Sebastian Vettel decided to return to the stands in his own way. If the drivers are used to being accompanied by marshals on scooters, the German has decided to take direct control of the two-wheeler.
Slight difference, Sébastian Vettel did not join the paddock from inside the circuit as required by procedure but rather directly from the track. A very rare scene which logically enlivened the crowd present on site while the quadruple world champion greeted them with a smile.
This is the most iconic end to a practice session we can remember 😅#AusGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/4jPlAZotzd

If the gallery was amused, the race management for its part does not seem to have taken great pleasure in seeing Sebastian Vettel survey the circuit on a scooter. As a result, the pilot Aston Martin was summoned by the officers for a “ unauthorized use of a scooter on track » violating article 26.7 of the Formula 1 regulations. It remains to be seen whether this little two-wheeled trip will earn him a simple reprimand or a real penalty. It's up to the judges to decide.
Regarding his engine, Sebastian Vettel was forced to use a new one for the rest of the weekend. A change which will not result in a penalty as confirmed by Aston Martin.
UPDATE: Following an investigation, after # SV5 lost drive in FP1, the team will change Sebastian's power unit. This will not incur a penalty. #F1 #AusGP
