Author of a very good start to the race, Vitaly Petrov (Renault) had to retire on lap 34 of the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Russian was thirteenth, ahead of Rubens Barrichello, but put away his car at the side of the track, most certainly due to a mechanical failure.
